Sims 2 DS Fanpage

You find yourself in a small village in the middle of the desert when your car suddenly breaks down. Welcome to Strangetown! You'll be here for at least a couple of days, so make yourself at home and meet the locals.

I hadn't even heard of Sims 2 for the DS until one day I was at my friend's house and was looking through their collection of games and saw the cartridge for it. It interested me so I asked to borrow it. When I got home I put it in my DSi and started playing. I found it interesting and it grew on me more as I played and now it's one of my favorite DS games!

It's very different from the other Sims 2 games as you play as a Sim who has to complete tasks. The main aim of the game is improving your hotel score (which starts at 6%). You run a hotel where a cast of characters can stay. You can also befriend these characters and find new ones as the game progresses.

At the beginning of the game your hotel has only two rooms, the small guest room and the penthouse. The penthouse quickly becomes unavailable because Frankie Fusilli comes to your hotel and lives there. To get him to leave you have to complete missions for him.
After all of Frankie Fusilli's missions are completed and he has left the penthouse, Ava Cadavra arrives and stays in the penthouse. Once again you complete missions for her, and when she leaves she is replaced by Optimum Alfred who you also have to complete missions for. Once you have finished with all three, you can use the penthouse to house guests. When each character leaves the penthouse, they become a normal sim, who walk around and can be interacted with. These three Sims have backstories and reasons for being at the hotel which connect to create an overarching storyline.

Gameplay

While playing you have to keep an eye on your sanity meter, which goes down gradually with time and can also be affected by negative interactions with others. Performing actions like sleeping, eating and taking a shower can raise the sanity meter, and so can social interactions. The more social interactions you have the higher your sanity meter level gets and the more you will be able to deal with. This will let you make more mistakes while socializing and let you be in the desert for longer.
Also, your Sim will have needs like a normal sim and occasionally a bubble will appear above their head with a symbol showing what they need (food, sleep, washing) which will be grey at first, but turn red as it gets more urgent. When the bubble is red, the sanity meter will go down quicker and won't stop until the need is met.

Characters

One of the things I most like about this game is the cast of characters. They include characters whom also appeared in other games like Sims 2 for the GBA, The Urbz and The Sims Bustin' Out, as well as Tank and Johnny from the main Sims 2 for PC.

Male
Emperor Xizzle

'Behold! Alien Emperor Xizzle the Feared! The Reviled! The UNINTELLIGIBLE!'
Auda Sherif

'This big-budget action film star put the 'Oo!' in boom!'
Frankie Fusili

'Frankie Fusili runs this town, understand? Don't cross him or you'll be rubbed out.'
Dusty Hogg

'Dusty has a mean streak much longer than his patience'
Giuseppi Mezzoalto

'Since moving here from SimValley, Giuseppi has gone from criminal to 'shady guy"
Luthor L. Bigbucks

'Luthor is the handsome, arrogant son of Mr. Bigbucks. Easy to hate, but impossible to ignore.'
Pepper Pete

'Pete is in town searching for a few good oarsmen to join him on his fool's errand.'
Sancho Paco Panza

'Sancho earned his Masters in Zoology two years ago. Now he just hangs out.'
Tank Grunt

'Tank injured his funny bone in combat. This left him permanently without a sense of irony.'
Honest Jackson

'Honest Jackson rose to prominence after beating Andy Scandal in the race for mayor.'
Jebediah S. Jerky

'Jeb wants to revive his old farm, but he can't remember what he used to grow.'
Tristan Legend

'More handsome, witty, and talented than anyone on earth. And he cooks!
Optimum Alfred

'A robot whose A.I. proved so sophisticated he was nearly elected governor of SimNation.'
Horus Menhoset IX

'He is the son of Horus Hipsomet the 4th, grandson of Horus Palimpsest the Plinth.'
Kent Hackett

'Once the star of a sci-fi TV program, Kent now basks in his cult status as an old dork.'
Lord Mole

'Ruler of a subterranean race of mole people, he is a feisty lad with Utopian dreams.'
Detective Dan D. Mann

'Detective Mann is a no-nonsense cop with a nose for facts and figures. He's kind but a little humorless.'
Bigfoot

'For decades people assumed Bigfoot was mere creature of rumor and imagination.'
Cannonball Coleman

The head of the Hotel's Sax Lounge, but he cannot be socialized with and only sells food.
Futo Maki

The head sushi chef of the hotel's Asian Emporium. He cannot be socialized with and he only sells food.
Female
Ara Fusili

'Ara is the smart, sassy, and terminally bored daughter of Frankie Fusili.'
Kayleigh Wintercrest

'Intelligent and enigmatic... Many have tried to woo this brilliant scientist. All have failed.'
Misty Waters

'Lifeguard turned successful fitness guru, Misty is in Strangetown to live large.'
Mamma Hog

'The only woman tough enough to keep Dusty in line - his mother.'
Penelope Redd

'Penelope was sent here by the FBI to investigate a matter of urgent import.'
Ava Cadavra

'Ex-drummer for the band The Germinators, Ava now spends most of her time brooding.'

My personal favorites are Giuseppi Mezzoalto and Dusty Hogg! :D

I may add more here eventually, but for now that's it for Sims 2 DS. I really recommend trying this game out for yourself. It's one of those games that grows on you as you play, so it's best to play for a while to appreciate it fully!
